That question pertains to the Form I-829, which is used to remove the conditions on your green card. To ensure you're up to date, the Form I-829 is filed with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and is typically filed around 20 months after obtaining your green card. Once filed, you will receive a receipt from USCIS, which extends the validity of your green card for one year. However, there is a current issue with USCIS taking over 20 months to approve the permanent green card for the Form I-829 application. This means that the one-year extension provided by the receipt will not cover the entire waiting period, leaving a period where it may appear that your green card is not valid. During this one-year period, if you plan to travel outside the United States, it is important to carry both the receipt letter extending your green card and your passport. This will avoid any confusion and prevent potential detention at the airport upon reentry to the United States. If you remain within the United States, no additional action is required after the one-year period, as long as you're not leaving the country. The receipt letter also serves as your authorization for employment. However, if you plan to leave the United States and the letter has expired, you will need to schedule an InfoPass appointment with the Immigration Service. During the appointment, they will stamp your passport to further extend your green card.
