True" hello from Star Path. This is a note on using QTvlm to view tides and currents. The tides and currents function of this program is one of the best I have seen. However, when you first download the program, it will not work because the necessary harmonics are not installed. We have various writings to explain why we agree that it's a good idea to have them installed, at least for the time being. So, what I want to do is show you how to load the harmonic files into the program, both on a Mac and on a PC. I'll start with the Mac as it is the easiest, but we also need to have instructions for the PC. Step one: there are no files there, so we have to get them. To do this, open a browser and type in "xtides.flatter.co." This is the website of Dave Flatter, who is a pioneer in software for tide and current predictions. Most people's programs are based on his early work. Once you reach the flatterco.com/xtide site, click on "Software available here." This will take you to a list of things, and at the top of the list, you will find the harmonic files. Again, choose the top file. It is a zip file, but it is a more complex form of compression than a regular zip file. On a Mac, the file will open right up. However, on a PC, it will not. That's why we need to do something special with the PC. Just click the file to download it. Now, on a Mac, all you have to do is click the downloaded file again, and it will be unzipped.
