For generations, children have given their teachers apples, but for this generation, it's the other way around. Today, every student at Simington Elementary School received a free Apple iPad. This is huge and a wonderful opportunity for these kids. I think it's going to help level the playing field when it comes to education, especially for the children as well as their teachers. It's all part of a White House program called "Connected with James," which aims to put technology into the hands of students who can't afford it. The grant initiative looks for students who meet a certain poverty threshold, and our students meet that threshold. If smiles are any indication, the students like what they're seeing. He woke up this morning and said, "Today's iPad day," so she's extremely excited that she's going to have her own iPad to do her homework on, learn on, and do everything she needs to do on it. After applying for the Connect at Grant, Simington and the Hickman Mills district were one of only four Missouri schools to receive it. We believe it's a drawing card to our emerging school district because we're going to become a model of effective ribbon education.
