True"! A while back, I posted on YouTube, "Why did I leave Texas?" And you see, I have my South Dakota plate on my car. It's fun to watch all the reasons why people think I left. Truth is, I didn't leave Texas and have no intention to leave. In Texas, it may have been as cold here or colder than it was in South Dakota, but that's not why I have the South Dakota plates. Let me give you a little bit of history on Texas vehicle registrations and what's going on. When I moved to Texas, there were two things you had to do - vehicle inspection and registration. These processes were independent, so you could pay for your registration, get your tags and license plates, and then get your inspection. If you didn't get the inspection, the police could pull you over and ticket you, so it was important to get both. This was the system for over 20 years. However, at some point, the legislature decided to make the inspection and registration dependent on each other. So now, you can't register your car unless you've gotten the inspection first. They also implemented a time limit - you have to get the inspection within 90 days before your registration is due. This made the process a bit more complicated, but it wasn't impossible, especially before COVID-19. Back in the day, during the inspection, they would take your vehicle and drive it to check its ance. As someone who owned unique and decent vehicles, I cringed when they would rev the engine and abuse my Mustang during the inspection. Eventually, some inspection places popped up where you didn't have to get out of your car. You just drove in and they would check if the brake lights, gas cap, headlights, high...
