True" hello and welcome to my channel. Today, we're going to be talking about homeschooling in Washington DC, the District of Columbia. I'm going to be covering many things, so hopefully I get it all in here. To comply with the District of Columbia's homeschool law, you have to make sure you have the required qualifications according to hslda.org. You can join and become a member, and they can help you if you're going to have legal problems or have legal questions. It states that you have to have a high school diploma or its equivalent to homeschool. If you do not, you may petition the Office of OSSE for a waiver by providing evidence of your ability to practice thorough regular homeschooling. Members of the HSLDA may contact their secret assistance for a waiver. You have to notify the District of Columbia Office of State Superintendent of Education and fill out a certain form. It has to be filed 15 days before you officially begin homeschooling, and every year after by August 15th. It must be accompanied by your high school diploma or GED unless you can't locate it. In that case, you put a cover letter stating that you have one but are not able to locate it. If you don't file by August 15th, then if you're a member of the HSLDA, you can contact them to let them know what you're doing and get specific advice on your situation. You have to teach your children thoroughly and regularly, so you have to give them regular instruction of sufficient duration to implement a homeschool program. It doesn't mean you have to homeschool the same hours of instruction, take vacations at the same time, or teach your children for the same number of hours as public schools. But you should provide...
