True. Hello, I'm Nicole Shepard and I'm the Transitioning Youth Coordinator with the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) at the Southern Maryland Regional Office. This quick video is going to give you an overview of what DDA does and our application process. Let's get started. DDA, which stands for Developmental Disabilities Administration, provides funding for individuals with developmental disabilities. They partner with individuals and their families to provide leadership and resources, enabling them to live fulfilling lives. DDA is guided by the principle that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to direct their lives and services. The application process for DDA can be completed online. You will need to fill out the application and include any supporting documentation, such as a psychological evaluation, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or any other medical documentation that documents the disability. Once the application has been submitted, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted, which includes an over-the-phone interview to better understand the person applying for services. The coordinator of community services will complete this process and submit it to DDA within 45 business days. DDA's eligibility team will review all the documentation, including the comprehensive assessment and application, to determine if the person meets the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for DDA services, the person must have a developmental disability, which can be a physical or mental impairment, but not just mental illness. The disability must have an onset before the age of 22, and the person must require support or assistance to live independently, as well as the support of a team for their services and treatment. If you meet the eligibility criteria for DDA, you will be placed in one of the three priority categories. The first category is crisis resolution, which applies to individuals currently in a crisis or emergency situation, such as abuse, neglect,...
