When you try to save a file, you encounter a grey circle with a line across it. In other words, you can read the files on your external drive but are unable to write to it. In this article, I will cover two solutions. Firstly, I will show you how to quickly fix this problem so you can resume saving files without the need to change your hard drive. Secondly, I will explain how to permanently resolve this issue and prepare your hard drive to be compatible with different operating systems and computers such as Linux, Mac, and Windows. This way, you won't have to rely on third-party software to make it work. Let's get started! First, plug in your external drive. On a Mac, click anywhere in the background and go to "Finder." From there, click on "Preferences." In the preferences menu, select "External Disks." You should be able to see your drive listed here. Open it up to view the contents. You can read the files, but when you try to save them, you encounter the grey icon. If you need an immediate fix, ensure you have an internet connection and type in "Mount T dot a PP" in your web browser. Go to the Mount II app website, and click on "Get a Mountie." Download the app and open the mountain installer. Follow the prompts to move it to the Applications folder. Once installed, open the Mountie app from the Applications folder.
